Eren Bali has left his position as CEO of the urgent and primary care startup Carbon Health, the company confirmed Friday.
A Carbon spokesperson said Kerem Ozkay, who previously served as the company’s chief operating officer, is now CEO as of Aug. 12. Bali will remain a “key leader” at Carbon as executive chairman and chief technology officer, the spokesperson said.
“This leadership transition has been carefully planned to maintain our momentum and commitment to innovation in healthcare,” the spokesperson said.
Bali is also returning to Udemy, an online education company he co-founded in 2010, as its chief technology officer, that company announced Friday.
The change comes months after Carbon’s president and chief strategy officer Myoung Cha left the startup for Verily.
San Francisco-based Carbon, which Bali co-founded in 2015, grew fast during the Covid-19 pandemic and collected hundreds of millions of dollars in venture funding. At one point, it reportedly notched a valuation of $3 billion. In January 2023, it said it raised $100 million from CVS Health Ventures.
But the startup has since struggled with steep losses and has laid off staff, shut down some clinics and closed certain care programs to cut costs, The Information reported last year.
