BioCentriq names ex-Resilient exec as new CEO; Sanofi, AstraZeneca boost Beyfortus production

Cell therapy CDMO BioCentriq has appointed Syed Husain as its new CEO, who recently was the chief commercial officer at Resilience. Prior to Resilience, Husain held roles at Alcami, Emergent BioSolutions and Lonza, according to a Thursday announcement.

Sanofi and AstraZeneca have secured FDA approval for a new manufacturing filling line to boost production capacity for their respiratory syncytial virus vaccine, according to a Monday release. Sanofi is already shipping 50 mg and 100 mg lots of Beyfortus to US private healthcare providers and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for its initiative called Vaccines for Children. Earlier this year, Sanofi warned Beyfortus would be in short supply in the first quarter 2024 and was honed in on boosting manufacturing capacity.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has purchased 500,000 doses of Bavarian Nordic’s mpox vaccine for use in Africa, the consortium said Wednesday.

The UK government has also purchased 150,000 doses of Bavarian Nordic’s mpox vaccine for local use. The UK is prioritizing vaccinations for men who have sex with men, healthcare workers, specialist healthcare and humanitarian workers, and those in close contact with someone infected with mpox, according to a Tuesday announcement.

Lonza has opened a new facility at its site in Colmar, France, dubbed the “Innovaform Accelerator,” the company said Thursday. The new facility will develop oral and pulmonary drug delivery systems.

Thermo Fisher Scientific’s clinical research and analytical arm, PPD, is expanding its laboratory services with a new 29,000-square-foot bioanalytical lab. It will be located at the GoCo Health Innovation City in Gothenburg, Sweden. The new lab will cover small and large molecules as well as biomarkers, the company said Wednesday.

Cell therapy CDMO Kincell Bio has secured a multi-year partnership with an unnamed customer, the manufacturer said Monday. Under the deal, Kincell will make the client’s cell therapy for degenerative disease at its facility in Gainesville, FL.

CDMO Recipharm has expanded its oral solid development site in Zwickau, Germany, by adding three manufacturing suites for blending, tableting and filling capsules. The expansion will be operational by the first quarter of 2025, the company said Monday.

Richter BioLogics has opened a new manufacturing factory in Bovenau, Germany, according to a Monday release. The 10,000-square-meter facility houses clinical and commercial manufacturing of protein and DNA-based therapies, among others.
